Talk on field recording techniques by sound artist Jez Riley French, Tuesday 8 May at 18.30

Jez Riley French (UK) lectures on his work with field recordings, involving extended techniques, contact microphones, coils, hydrophones, scores for listening/active listening, audible silence and quietude. This is followed by an open discussion/q&a session on the broad subject of field recording – both as a creative practice and the influence it is having on a closer relationship to sound.

French's work involves elements of intuitive composition, field recording, photographic images and improvisation and has been performed exhibited and published widely. Along with sound artist Chris Watson, French is one of the tutors for WideEye Sound Recording. In recent years he's been artist in residence with organisations in Estonia, Belgium, France, Portugal, Latvia, Italy, Japan, Korea and Austria.
