M.V. Carbon is a Brooklyn based interdisciplinary artist who is recognized for her non-traditional approach to music. She uses cello, reel-to-reel tape machines, synths, analog electronics, field recordings, and voice to induce physical commotion. Her live performances combine sonics, physicality, projection and object manipulation to transform space. Her current work refers to magic, multidimensional travel, invocation, interchangeability, and the externalization of the neurological mechanism. She intends to provoke extrasensory awareness through disorienting “reality.”
Carbon has collaborated with artists including Tony Conrad, Aki Onda, Henrik Rylander, Evan Parker, Nick Zinner, Brian Chase, Okkyung Lee, C. Spencer Yeh, Audrey Chen and many more. She has solo releases out on Ecstatic Peace (US) and Discombobulate (UK). Carbon is one half of the duo Metalux, which has 27 releases including LPs on Hanson, Load, 5rc, Rescipiscent and Veglia, and self-released limited edition pieces.
She has received commissions, grants, and residencies from Issue Project Room (NY), Roulette (NY), The Clocktower Gallery (NY), and The City of Chicago Cultural Affairs (IL). She has performed and exhibited her work in the U.S. and internationally in venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), PS1 Moma (NY), The Guggenheim BMW Lab (NY), The Copenhagen Music Theater (DK), ULU (UK), Nefertiti Jazz Club (SE), Socrates Sculpture Park (NY), The Stone (NY), Performa 2011(NY), The Sage (UK), Casa Des Artes, (PT), Worm (NL).
